Notion Tutorial
December 2, 2024
Being overwhelmed and surrounded by people around you. Can you make your mark in the crowd you are unsure of? We will start by diving into the improvements of Notions with one another! Also, discuss Notion's website. Cover the forms, charts, and new page layouts. With the use of these features, we can come up with a portfolio webpage to underscore your talents and intelligence.
Getting Started with Notion Templates
To get started, you can download the workshop template for free. Then, you will get access to the layout, which we can use as our first step in designing the layout. Each section in this template has an important function and will help you arrange your portfolio in an organized manner.
Exploring the Template Features
The About Me section is at the top of the template. You can put your profile picture and intro here. There is also a Contact Us button below to open a contact form we will create later. Then comes highlighting your skills to get those clients to know your strengths. The categories include areas like software expertise and languages.
Also, your abilities are compiled for a complete view of what you're good at. We've added segments on metrics and known brands to give your portfolio some credibility and make it more appealing. When people visit your portfolio, they like to have access to figures and reputable endorsements.
Testimonials and Achievements
Below the skills showcase, there is a testimonial section. Each testimonial includes the person's name, job title, company, message, and star rating. The testimonial doesn't come with the workshop template, but I'll demonstrate how you can get it at the end of the article.
You can pick the rating in the hidden properties, and the star display will automatically update. Further down, these are your Achievements, including competition names, awards, and badges. In the Project section, you can enter project names, years, clients, descriptions, and related URLs (if needed).
Blog and Subscription Features
The blog section shows article titles, authors, last update times, and estimated reading times. Additionally, a Subscribe to Our Newsletter button will pop up a subscription form. This subscription form currently uses my link, but you can embed your own anytime. The View More button directs users to the blog page.
Customizing Your Portfolio Layout
Now, let's start with Notion's page layout feature. Click on any skill, then click Customize Layout at the top. In the layout settings, click Add to Panel. You can choose any database property to display in your panel. We will use the proficiency rating property here.
When it appears in the side panel, click the three-dot icon and select Move to Page. This helps keep the main page uncluttered by relocating the property group to the panel. Click the top module to pin important properties—specifically, levels and types. Once done, click Apply to All Pages.
Creating Charts to Showcase Skills
To enhance your portfolio's uniqueness:
Create a line chart that visually overviews your skills.
Right-click any tab and select Duplicate under layout options.
Choose chart and click Edit Chart.
From the chart types, select Horizontal Line Chart.
For axis configuration, set proficiency rating as the X-axis and skills as the Y-axis. In the style section, customize the appearance of your chart.
Integrating Noition Forms
Now, let's take a look at the exciting Notion form feature. It’s as easy as pie. The contact form is user-friendly, and when your clients hit the Contact Us button, a very professional contact form pops up. To do that, go back to the landing page of the workshop template. Head to the database page and use the Inline Database Command to create a Contact Form database.
Next, build the attributes of the contact form. These are the client’s name, company name, email, contact number, and message. Clicking the tab’s plus icon and then picking Form will create a form using your database. You can just type Notion to automatically create the form for you.
Customizing the Contact Form
Creating forms on Notion is super easy. You can name the form, write a description, and adjust the questions by clicking and dragging the modules with your mouse. It's a simple click, and you can change a question to a compulsory or an answer format. You will also be able to add more details to each question. You can also change the form submission button and the completion message.
This form now needs to change the permissions to let non-members of your workspace fill it out. Now, when we have done that, we have built a form for ourselves.
Configuring the Contact Us Button
Let’s head back to our homepage and configure the Contact Us button. Next, click New Action, then select the Open Page or URL. Then, search for our form’s title in the next menu. This has now embedded our Notion form into our portfolio website!
Using Tally Forms for Advanced Features
If you want your contact form to have more advanced features, you can also try using the free Tally form as your contact form solution. Tally form offers advanced features such as conditional logic, allowing you to create forms that work for B2C and B2B clients. I'll share the Tally form template for free in the video description.
After copying the template, go to the share tab, select Embed Form, and copy the embed link. Replace the original form on your homepage's contact page with your Tally form. Let's create a new contact button for the Tally form to highlight the differences.
Follow the same process: select Open Page and search for the Contact Us page. This will give us a contact button for the Notion and Tally forms.
How to synchronizing Tally Form with Notion
The best part is that you can seamlessly connect all entries from a Tally form to a Notion database! Tally form offers advanced features such as conditional logic, allowing you to create forms that work for B2C and B2B clients. Go to the integrations section on the form. There, link your Notion account and follow the instructions to sync Tally form submissions with your Notion database. After setup, your Tally form submissions will sync with your chosen database without extra effort.
You might see the Tally's logo on your form page. You can get rid of it. Upgrade to the Tally's Pro Plan to unlock features like email alerts for respondents, a custom domain, and custom CSS. The Pro Plan lets you create a zero-fee payment form, which will help you collect payments without any cost.
Publishing Your Website
Let's wrap up by getting your website! Start off by heading to the settings section of your account and locating the site feature. If you still need to alter your website link. Want to give it a bit of character with a personalized subdomain option available here. This is for paid users of Notion like yourself. There are some choices for incorporating a domain name if needed. You have two options. For simplicity, stick with the Notions domain. Or, invest $96 a year in your own domain name.
If you subscribe monthly, you can buy the domain for a month only. This is for those who want to try it or need it for a short project.
Finalizing Your Portfolio Website
After arranging your website address:
Return to the homepage.
Locate the share option at the top right corner of the page to make this page accessible to the public online.
Enable search engine indexing, which is how you inform search engines of your online presence.
For website personalization options, Notions Plus subscriptions are necessary. These subscriptions allow you to adjust your site's theme and favicon. Customization options are available within the header section of the website layout. We must prevent users from copying our website. Also, we should enable search for sites with many blog posts.
Conclusion
Finally, we can add important pages to our headers so users can quickly navigate to specific sections. Back to the settings panel, we can add the Google Analytics Measurement ID to track user behavior on your website. Once you're done, click Publish Changes. You've now created an appealing portfolio website using Notion.
Hopefully, this will help you as you build your portfolio site. So far, in your journey to build a professional online presence, it has been helpful to you. If you want to throw your support behind what I’m doing, or if you don’t feel like doing all of this yourself … If that is the case, you can get the full portfolio template. It features Notion Form integration, loads of page layout options, a testimonial section, and more. Thanks for your thoughts. All the best with what you do, and good luck!
